Petition Letter
Hello Dr. Stephenson,
My name is Benjamin Agapas, my student number is 20350576, and I have been enrolled in Queen’s Arts & Science program since the f/w 22/23 school year. I am registered with academic accommodations on Ventus.
I am writing to request academic consideration in regard to a late dropping of my HLTH 200 course I had taken this previous semester.
From early October to late November, I had undergone a significant mental health crisis that severely impaired me from accomplishing my tasks. This caused me to fall significantly behind in my coursework and course completion and severely hindered my day-to-day activities pertaining to maintaining my physical and mental health. Prioritizing the courses that mattered for my major as well as meeting basic needs was all that I could do. As a consequence, I was unable to withdraw from my HLTH 200 Personal Health & Fitness course before the final deadline.
Because the cause of my mental health crisis was determined to have stemmed from my depressive disorder, I have been consistently in therapy and have been prescribed antidepressants that have been very helpful to enabling my participation in class. Furthermore, I have taken a reduced course load this year, and have moved to my parent’s house to be within range of familial support. I have also connected with my QSAS advisor to seek advice on academic accommodation and disability. Because of the increased support and medication, I am doing much better and will significantly decrease the intensity and duration of my depressive episodes, and therefore participate in class.
Please let me know if this type of consideration works with you, or if there are any other options going forward. I am happy to provide formal documentation if needed.
Thank you,
Benjamin Agapas
