Petition Letter
I am petitioning for the ability to add courses for Summer 2024 past the original add deadline. My important incentive for this action is the need to gain credits and improve my GPA, having been affected severely by the debilitating symptoms of my mental health conditions and learning disability. ADHD PI and persistent depressive disorder significantly and continuously impacts my executive functioning, ability and focus, as well as my motivation to live in general. It is my intense conviction that I, through the support system of the university, am able to work through the complex, challenging and unpredictable hurdles presented by these ineradicable conditions that brings me to preserve and make this application. At the time of the summer course add deadline, I was in between physicians and did not have the right prescription medication which did not efficiently aid in managing my disability and disorder. I did not, at that time, have the concentrative capacity to carry out any academic processes, or the energy to do so much as a load of laundry. This situation forced me into a grim and incessant cycle, involving much shame and self-hatred, which greatly hindered my capability to attend to tasks and even reach out to anyone for support for these issues. It's fairly hard to do the things you need to do and plan ahead when you’re struggling to find the drive to deal with life itself and meet your most basic, physical needs. I have since seen a practitioner who has prescribed a more suitable, antidepressant medication. I can provide this evidentiary documentation. I really, desperately need to acquire more credits and ameliorate my GPA to make sure I stay in the running and get towards graduation. As a very neurodivergent student with a disability, I rely on the school’s support system for the cognizance and understanding of these chronic circumstances, which make existing in a neurotypical designed world difficult. Being allowed to achieve more passed credits this summer would be a massive boost to this process. Thank you for your attention and I hope this letter finds you well.
