Petition Letter
To the Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences,
As instructed by Kate Black and Kerri Andrews, I am writing to appeal for consideration regarding my academic registration during the 2023 Summer term.
During this time, I faced significant extenuating circumstances that impacted my ability to realize I was enrolled in the course, let alone focus on my studies. From spring to winter of 2023, I became the sole financial supporter of my family, consisting of my sister and mother. This unexpected and pressing responsibility required me to dedicate all my time and resources to ensuring their well-being. As a result, I was entirely unaware that I was registered for the course or that the term had commenced. I still do not know which course I was registered for and did not have access to SOLUS when I later received an email stating I had fees owing.
Given the gravity of my familial obligations, I was not in a position to prioritize my academic pursuits or even recognize my enrollment status. The urgency of my family's financial situation demanded my full attention and resources, leaving me with no capacity to engage with academic matters. Consequently, I did not access any course materials or engage with the course in any capacity.
