Petition Letter
Good day to whomever it may concern,
My name is Nadia Osunde, I am a first-year international student in the arts and science program. I am writing you today to petition the request for my one-year withdrawal from Queens University could be waived. As I said earlier, I am an international student, and this would be my second year being in Canada. The year has not been easy. I am in a new environment with a completely different climate from what I am used to. Adjusting to the weather is just one of the issues I am facing at Queens. I was meant to begin my studies at Queensu in the year 2022 but my admission was deferred because of my visa. I was required to drop my courses before final because I wouldn’t have been in Canada to sit for them. In 2023 my admission was revoked randomly on an apparent fluke and my spot from residence was also revoked. I had to contest both to get them back. With the change of environment, I found that my jet lag lasted months. I struggled to adjust to the new sleep schedule, I’ve been extremely sleep deprived all year which has caused me to miss assignments and classes, extreme fatigue, and stress, and in turn I experienced a lack of motivation. I’ve been struggling with my mental health for years on end. The first time I was able to seek help for this was at Queens. I started at Queens on September 30th 2023. I came in 3 weeks late because of a delay in receiving my study visa. On October 3rd I reached out to ms Nadia Sawaya Fehr, a residence therapist. I spoke to her about my constant sadness and lack of motivation. I saw Ms Fehr quite often after that until the middle of second semester when I requested that she connect me to a psychiatrist. I was told I was meant to see a consultant first and so I did. I spoke with her and told her I believe I’m depressed. After further explanation she said it’s very likely, but I refused a meeting with a physician with the fear of getting medicated. After that consultation I tried to put my mental health in the backseat to focus on finals. It wasn’t the best decision, and the situation I’m in now proves that. Since then, I struggled, and I am still struggling with my mental health. If I am allowed back into Queens University this fall, I will do my best to prioritize my mental well-being and in turn improve my grades. I'm not a neglectful student, Im just facing a lot of issues adjusting. I'm hoping you will give me a chance to redeem myself this coming fall.
Attached are document explaining my situation over these past 2 years.
Yours sincerely,
Nadia Osunde.
