Petition Letter
Dear Queens University
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to formally appeal my grade for course 235. I understand that my current grade is just below the C- threshold required to meet the prerequisite for my next term's courses.
I encountered a specific challenge that I believe significantly impacted my final grade. Two weeks prior to the scheduled midterm exam, I informed my instructor of an unavoidable orthodontist appointment that conflicted with the exam date. The instructor assured me that I could take the midterm at a later date, to which he said he will email me about in the next coming days. After around 2 weeks, without any response or update on the matter, I emailed the professor and spoke to him in person asking for an update, to which he verbally replied he will give me and update soon, to which I found out, I was not given the opportunity to take the deferred midterm, instead, the weight of the midterm was reallocated to my final exam.
This reallocation placed me at a considerable disadvantage compared to my peers, as my final exam carried a much heavier weight than originally intended. Despite my best efforts, this increased pressure and weight on a single assessment adversely affected my overall performance.
I am respectfully requesting a slight adjustment to my grade for the second midterm to reach the necessary C- threshold. Achieving this prerequisite grade is crucial for me, as it directly impacts my ability to enroll in core classes next term. I hope you can understand my situation and consider my appeal. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated and would play a significant role in my academic progression.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
