Academic Plan
Dear Board of Studies,
Following my recent petition to remain enrolled at Queen’s University, I am submitting an academic plan
that outlines the steps I will take to ensure my academic success moving forward. This plan takes into
account the accommodations for my ADHD diagnosis and the support needed to manage the situational
crisis affecting my home life. I am committed to leveraging these strategies and resources to improve my
performance and successfully complete my studies.
Academic Plan
1. Collaboration with Disability Services:
Initial Meeting: I have already been in contact with Queen’s with the Disability Services Office to discuss
my ADHD diagnosis and develop a personalized accommodation plan.
Accommodations: I have requested specific accommodations such as extended time on exams, note-
taking assistance, preferential seating, and the ability to record lectures.
Regular Check-ins: Arrange bi-weekly check-ins with a Disability Services advisor to monitor my
progress and adjust accommodations as needed.
2. Academic Support:
Tutoring: Enroll in tutoring sessions for challenging subjects to ensure I grasp the course material
effectively.
Study Skills Workshops: Participate in workshops focused on time management, organization, and
effective study techniques, tailored for students with ADHD.
Advising: Meet with my academic advisor monthly to review my course load, academic performance, and
progress towards my degree.
3. Mental Health and Well-being:
Counseling: Continue my regular sessions with my therapist and a university counselor to manage stress
and develop coping strategies for my situational crisis.
ADHD Treatment: Follow through with my ADHD treatment plan, including the prescribed medications
my doctor has given me and behavioral therapy, to manage symptoms effectively.
Support Groups: Join a support group for students with ADHD or those dealing with similar home-life
challenges to share experiences and strategies.
4. Time Management and Organization:
Planner and Calendar: Use a detailed planner and digital calendar to organize my schedule, set reminders
for assignments, exams, and meetings.
Study Schedule: Create a structured weekly study schedule that allocates specific times for each subject,
ensuring consistent study habits.
Break Tasks into Steps: Break down large assignments and projects into smaller, manageable steps with
individual deadlines to avoid last-minute stress.
5. Communication with Professors:
Introduction: Meet with each professor at the start of the semester to discuss my accommodations and any
potential challenges I might face.
Regular Updates: Provide regular updates to professors about my progress and seek their guidance when
needed, especially if I encounter difficulties with the coursework.
6. Adjusted Course Load:
Course Selection: In consultation with my academic advisor, carefully select courses each semester to
balance my workload and ensure I can manage the demands effectively.
By implementing this comprehensive academic plan, I am confident that I can overcome my current
challenges and achieve academic success at Queens. I would greatly appreciate your consideration and
support in allowing me to continue my studies with these accommodations and strategies in place.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
Sincerely,
Anita Nadarajah
