Petition Letter
Dear Academic Associate Dean
I am writing this letter to ask for a reconsideration of the decision to withdrawal me from the faculty of Art and Science for 1 year.
On May 26th I received an email indicating that I was to withdrawal from the faculty of Art and Science for one year. This is because I have failed to achieve the cumulative GPA of a 0.7 during my first year. Following a meeting with my academic advisor it became clear to me that many factors beyond my control have impacted my ability to succeed in my studies. I believe the faculty should be aware of my circumstance in order to make a fair and informed decision.
I was a good academic standing student before coming to university. Unfortunately, when I entered the university, I realized the high tuition as an international student and this was a great pressure on me. Also, the language transition from High school level to University level overwhelmed me and deteriorated my circumstances. I was unable to fit in University as socially and academically these started to feel isolated from the university and my focus was heavily clouded because of this suffocating situation. This mental stress was totally a new experience that I have never dealt in my life.
Although the previous academic year was an exceptional one for me I am pursing a second chance in the Faculty as an opportunity to improve myself. After diagnosing myself, I have set a firm academic plan so that the problems I faced during my first year will most likely not reoccur in the future.
I believe that the Faculty should give me a chance to pursue, especially considering the fact that I suffered from extenuating circumstances as an international student, and it was beyond my control. In addition, hoping to aware that I do have a firm academic plan to success in the future that I set my goal majoring in Applied economic. I sincerely hope your help and support to make my efforts worth it as full time student.
Sincerely,
Yeonju Kim
