Petition Letter
I noticed earlier on that I was required to withdraw from my studies for a year due to my less than satisfactory grades, and felt that it was appropriate to underline certain extenuating circumstances that resulted in my academic standing, in hopes to waive the requirement. In 2021, I was forwarded to a psychiatrist named Jamey Adrim, who, later on, diagnosed me with BPD, after I noted that I was suffering with severe depression earlier that year. Borderline Personality Disorder is a metal illness that is accompanied by severe mood swings, intense depressive episodes, unstable relationships and suicidal ideation. The psychiatrist, later on, referred me to take behavioral therapy with the accommodation of antidepressant medication if needed. At the time, not understanding the full depths of my disorder, I decided to not do what the psychiatrist recommended of me and, instead, decided to continue my academic studies with no help. This mistake began to follow up with me in the future, as year by year, I began to fall into a deep depression in the height of my bpd that would make me feel powerless. In desperation, I began to reach out to the queens team for more psychiatric help, contacting counsellors like emily blacker who would assist me through sessions in 2022-2023. However, after the death of my cousin in 2022, it seems that I would have never recovered. I spoke with the same counselor recently (in april) who provided me with a verification of extenuating circumstance form stating that my mental health affected me for 4-8 weeks starting from april 1st. It is important to note that I've been feeling symptoms long before I was documented in April since I was already failing classes in fall term, however this is unfortunately one of the only times I decided to finally reach out for help other than my professors at the time.
The counselor also provided me with many resources on how I could get better, and be able to obtain academic wellness.
