Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Bob Lemieux, my name is Ella Girvan and I am heading into my third year at Queen’s University in the Sociology Program. I am in the process of being approved to study and hoping to attend the University College Dublin during the spring semester of 2025. I require your permission to transfer credits back to Queen's University as part of my International Letter of Permission. I submitted a letter in July to my Department Head requesting support to study at the University College Dublin, which has subsequently been approved. I am currently in very good academic standing and on track to fulfill my academic plan requirements. I also have no outstanding fees, appeals, or requests. Studying at UCD would provide me with valuable international exposure and a diverse cultural experience. It would allow me to immerse myself in a different academic and social environment, fostering personal growth and exposing me to intercultural perspectives. Studying abroad also provides an opportunity to network and build connections with other students, faculty, and professionals from different academic and cultural backgrounds. This can be beneficial for future collaborations, job prospects, or international career opportunities. On a more personal level, I would embrace the opportunity to also travel around Ireland as well as to other nearby European countries in order to better appreciate disparate cultures. This might include new understandings and cultural sensitivities around religion, language architecture, music and food.
