Petition Letter
Hello,
My name is Leila Shapiro. I am entering my third year at Queen’s in the concurrent education program, majoring in health studies. I'm writing to ask for permission to take a full course load (15.0 units) while studying abroad in Spain during the Winter 2025 semester. This seems like an amazing learning opportunity that would help me achieve both my career and personal goals. I want to go on exchange for several reasons. I want to be a teacher and travel the world while doing so, so learning about the European education system and establishing relationships with children around the world will be extremely beneficial to my future and allow me to gain a stronger understanding of different educational approaches. Next, I've always loved travelling. I'll be able to improve myself and be pushed out of my comfort zone by this opportunity. Although I love Queens, I'm in a very comfortable environment with my friends. I think that opening myself up to new experiences and interacting with other people will make me grow. I will be able to improve my communication skills, confidence, and sense of self. All of these attributes will increase my employability. Furthermore, I will become more aware of the value of diversity as a result of the cultural exposure I receive from this experience. I've grown up in a quite homogeneous atmosphere, so I'm excited to experience the diverse cultures of Europe. I will become more flexible and accepting as a result of this experience, appreciating other cuisines, styles, customs, and even weather patterns. Lastly, the university in Spain offers several unique courses that Queens’s does not! This will help expand my academic horizons and lead to a unique new skillset. I am confident that participating in an exchange program will enrich my academic and personal life. I can't wait to take advantage of this chance to develop myself and professionally as a future teacher!
Sincerely,
Leila Shapiro
