Petition Letter
Hello,
The purpose of this letter is to request permission to take a full course load while studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain during the winter 2025 semester. This is an incredible and unique learning opportunity for various reasons. As a Concurrent Education student aspiring to pursue a career in teaching, I am particularly eager to observe the European education system. Immersing myself in a Spanish university will provide firsthand experience and insights that cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom setting. It will also prepare me as a future teacher to effectively engage with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, which is essential for fostering an inclusive and dynamic classroom environment. Additionally, I enjoy studying languages and took beginners Spanish in my first year at Queen’s University. This is an excellent opportunity to immerse myself in a Spanish speaking environment to further my Spanish language skill set.
Moreover, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where I intend to study, offers a variety of elective courses that are not available at Queen's University. This opportunity would allow me to take classes that I would otherwise not have access to, thereby broadening my academic horizons and enriching my educational experience.
Studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain will not only enhance my academic development but also contribute to my personal growth. Leaving home for an extended period will be a challenge, but I believe it will foster resilience and independence.
On a personal level, this study abroad holds significant importance to me. I am keen to explore other parts of the world and to directly immerse myself into other cultures. In addition, I have ancestors from Spain and this experience would enable me to connect with my roots and learn more about my family history and culture. This connection to my ancestry is something that cannot be fully appreciated through books or stories alone; it requires personal experience and direct interaction with my ancestral heritage.
Thank you for considering my request. I am confident that this opportunity will be a transformative experience that will greatly benefit my academic and personal development.
Sincerely,
Kaya Mincer
