Academic Plan
Academic Plan:
I had always planned to go study abroad since I came to Queen’s and have ensured that all my degree requirements will be satisfied while making sure I have fulfilled my prerequisites when applying to future dental schools. As a Life Sciences Major, I must complete 120 units total. I have already completed all of my core and supporting courses (BIOL 102, BIOL 103, CHEM 112, CISC 151, BCHM 102, BCHM 218, MICR 221, CHEM 281, CHEM 282, PHGY 215 and 216, PHYS 115/116, and MATH 121A/B).
In total, I must take 30 units of LISC List A courses. I am required to take 6 units from LISC List A which I satisfied by taking PSYC 100. I must take 6 units at the LISC list A at the 200 level or above. Last semester I took STAM 200 and in fourth year I plan on taking PHGY 290 to satisfy those requirements. I must take 15 units of LISC LIST A at the 300 level or above and 3 units of LISC LIST A at the 400 level or above. I have started this by taking PHAR 380, REPD 372 and EPID 301. This means I am required to take 9 units at the 300/400 level. To fulfill these requirements I plan to take three of the following courses in fourth year; BCHM 370, NSCI 325, NSCI 323, PHGY 290, BIOL 334, BCHM 441. I have chosen 6 courses I am interested in, in case I am unable to get into my top choices.
Besides my core, supporting, and option courses, I am required to take 45 units of elective courses. I have started this by taking IDIS 199, HLTH 200, ANAT 100, ASCX 150, and ENGL 101, PHYS 116. Some fourth year elective courses that interest me include; IDIS 280, MUSC 114, ENIN 301 and HLTH 101. I hope to take 15 units (5 courses) while studying abroad in Barcelona which will count toward my elective courses. The courses I am hoping to take as my elective courses in Barcelona include; Urban Intervention, Graffiti and Public Sculpture, Intercultural Communications, Spanish Contemporary Art, Entrepreneurship and New Venture Communication, and Mediterranean Politics. These courses fall under several different disciplines, allowing me to expand my horizons. As mentioned in my appeal letter, I hope to pursue a career in dentistry. Many dental schools require 2 electives that can include art, business, and humanities studies. The elective courses Spanish Contemporary Art, Urban Intervention, Graffiti, and Public Sculpture, and Mediterranean politics would satisfy these requirements.
Overall, I have worked hard to organize my academic plan to not only satisfy my requirements for both my degree and future dental school, but take courses that will interest and challenge myself, making me a more well rounded student.
