Academic Plan
As a dedicated third-year Life Sciences student at Queen’s University, I am requesting an exemption from the 6.0 unit LOP limit. This opportunity will allow me to engage in interdisciplinary studies that complement my major while offering a broader and unique academic and cultural experience. The courses I wish to take align with both my focus of study and personal development, greatly contributing to my academic growth and future professional aspirations.
Courses:
Politics of the Developing World
Spanish Contemporary Art
Urban Interventions: Graffiti & Public Sculpture
Intercultural Communication
Modernism
Academic Goals:
My primary goals during this exchange term include:
Enhanced Global Perspective: Deepen my understanding of global issues through a new lens, allowing me to approach problems in my major with a more diverse set of tools and perspectives.
Interdisciplinary Learning: Explore subjects outside my primary field of study to foster a more holistic approach to health, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
Cultural Fluency and Competence: Strengthen my ability to navigate and communicate within different cultural contexts in today’s globalized world.
Plan for Achieving Academic Success:
Balanced Schedule: I will focus intently on time management and distribute my course workload across the semester in a way that allows me to engage with each subject, without overextending myself.
Academic Support: I will schedule regular meetings with academic advisors at Queen’s University and faculty members at UAB to monitor my progress and ensure all is going as planned.
Structured Study Schedule: I will implement a weekly schedule, as I have at Queen’s, that allocates specific blocks of time for coursework, assignments, and independent study, ensuring that I remain on top of all tasks.
Maintain Personal Well-Being: I will remain in close contact with family and friends throughout my exchange, and ensure I use them along with Queen’s and UAB resources to manage stress and maintain a healthy balance of work.
Academic Resources:
Library and Online Databases: I will take full advantage of UAB’s academic resources, which will be unique from those I have used previously at Queen’s.
Language Support: To enhance my experience and understanding, I will utilize language support services offered at UAB, helping improve my Spanish proficiency for both academic purposes and cultural integration.
Conclusion:
By following this academic plan, I am confident that I will be able to excel during my exchange at UAB. This experience will contribute to both my academic development and professional future by broadening my perspective and enriching my skills. Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to your positive response.
Sincerely,
Matthew Morrow
