Petition Letter
I am requesting to take a third year semester abroad on a Letter of Permission through the International Programs Office. I have always had a passion for travel. I love experiencing new things and learning about the differences of our world and I think that doing a semester abroad would be the perfect opportunity to expand my travel experiences.
During my time on exchange I hope to broaden my foundation of knowledge through the exposure to a culture different from my own. I hope to expand my experiences and gain a new perspective of such culture. I want to take advantage of this experience and use it as an opportunity to grow as much as possible by stepping out of my comfort zone, trying new things and learning to cope in unfamiliar situations, whatever they may be. In life, we must always learn to interact with different types of people from cultures different from our own, even in our own country. Being away will provide me with the opportunity to build that skill and experience.
I aim to get a new perspective on my area of study. With the exposure to different coursework and a completely new environment, I guarantee my learning experience will be quite different from what it is now. I also hope to be exposed to content and instruction that might not be available to me anywhere other than in that country. I hope that with this new exposure I might be driven in a more specific direction in terms of what kind of career path I would eventually like to pursue.
While on Exchange, I aim to learn a foreign language through classes at the university and interactions with the locals. I will also have the opportunity to learn their culture and how they work and I know that this will be invaluable to me in building my foundation as a person.
I hope not only to gain from my experience but to also contribute to the academic environment. Coming from a different country, I will have lots to offer that may be different to the people of my host country. I want to share what I have learned from my classes at Queen¿¿s about economics with the students and professors of this new school.
