Petition Letter
My name is Evan Domingues, and I am a third-year student in the Faculty of Arts and Science (Honours), with my declared major in Political Studies. Currently, I am in the process of obtaining permission to attend London Metropolitan University for the 2025 Winter semester. I write this letter in hopes of receiving permission to take more than 6.0 units worth of courses at another institution. After examining my records, I am confident that I am on track to graduate in the 2026 winter semester while fulfilling all required credits for my degree and being in good academic standing with Queens.
When I chose Queen's to pursue my studies, I knew I was committing to a tremendous institution. In my years at Queen’s, I have grown in the classroom and as a person. I have been a hard-working, responsible student, striving for the best results possible. I am an active member of the Queen’s community, participating in clubs such as QU Ski and Snowboard, along with Queen’s International Affairs, which have allowed me to engage with fellow students across all faculties, building lasting connections. In addition, I am very involved in the Kingston community as an active member of the Kingston Tennis Club, where I can regularly connect with locals and expand my network.
I cannot express my excitement about the possibility of studying abroad. I will be able to partake in an experience that will not only expand my academic repertoire but also push me to new limits as a person. As my father is a European immigrant and my mother has strong family ties to Europe, I have always been eager to experience the culture and establish new perspectives while challenging myself in a different academic scene. London Metropolitan University offers a broad array of courses that bring new ideas and perspectives to light, all of which are highly beneficial to my political science major. Taking courses such as Political Marketing in a Digital World, Global Populism and the Crisis of Democracy and Progress Protests and Power within the Faculty of Politics will allow me to seamlessly integrate the knowledge gained abroad into my continuing studies at Queens. These courses not only fit well with my current major but shed light on a new opportunity to see how politics and democracy are displayed across seas. With a keen interest in pursuing a career in political marketing, these courses will give me the exposure necessary to gain fresh perspectives, which will diversify my understanding of the marketing field. I'm excited to bring this newfound knowledge back to my studies at Queens, which will enhance my learning and pursuit of a career in political marketing.
Considering my Political Science major, the chance to see how other governments operate would allow me to compare and contrast various sectors, such as policy-making, democratic involvement and other political actions. Meeting professionals in the field while subsequently connecting with and learning from them would open the door to new perspectives and methods I could bring back to Queens. The benefits of studying abroad and developing new connections and experiences would serve as a pivotal point in my academic journey. I am eager to return to Queens after my studies with a broader understanding of the global political scene and connect them to the community by maintaining strong connections with the people I meet. This will allow me to facilitate a broad array of ideas between Canada and the global political scene with classmates and others to enhance our collective learning journey as Queen’s students.
