Petition Letter
Dear Dean
My name is Cy Richards Samuels and I am writing to you concerning my sanction in hopes you may accept my appeal. Firstly, I apologize for my poor performance academically this year. At this point I feel like a broken record but know I still have more to give. These last 2 and a half years have been mentally and physically draining. Although I don¿¿t like excuses, I believe my recent experiences are mainly the root of my problems and the struggle I¿¿ve endured at Queen¿¿s. I love being a student at Queen¿¿s and would like to continue being here if accepted. The recent death of my mother and sudden misfortune for my grandmother along with my brothers declining health set me back and although not intentionally has been an overwhelming experience that I wasn¿¿t able to fully recover and work from. Initially coming back to school I had planned to do well and begin to make serious improvements however I realize that part of my reason for an unsuccessful year was because I tried taking on too many things at once rather than working myself back into routine and regaining common ground. Playing on the basketball team and keeping up with my studies as well as taking care of myself was a bit more than I could chew and it showed as the season and school year progressed. I thought I could do it all and be successful however I wasn¿¿t ready for that many commitments and with my grandma becoming less independent that completely distracted me from my studies especially after recently experiencing my mother¿¿s death not too long before that. It¿¿s not often in life you get another chance to make things right but I¿¿m here begging and hoping for this last opportunity. I know my my records don¿¿t show much resolve but I feel I have the right formula to reach my ideal goals. Originally I thought Politics was a huge interest of mine but after being enrolled in politics I realize it¿¿s not one of my interests and I would rather excel in gender studies or sociology, which have proven to be my stronger courses in previous years. I feel decreasing my course load and possibly becoming a part time student or doing online courses can be more suited for my personal success. If I¿¿m accepted, I also plan on not participating in extracurricular activities which allows me to put complete focus into my classes and personal growth. I assure you that being at Queen¿¿s University is no joke to me and I¿¿m very honoured to be at such a prestigious institution. I humbly hope you reconsider my sanction and accept my appeal, I promise that this time around I would make all the right moves and show results.
Sincerely
Cy Richards Samuels
