Petition Letter
December 3, 2024
Dear Dean Stephenson,
My name is Kaitlyn Viggers, I am a third year student at Queen’s writing to petition for an Aegrotat standing in my DRAM 200 course that ran during both the fall and winter terms of the 2023/2024 year. I am writing this petition under circumstances that I encountered last year that are only now currently getting resolved. This last school year (2023/24), my mental health took a very strong decline that worsened over the course of the year, and around the end of first term I received a new diagnosis from a psychiatrist in Kingston, but had to wait for cardiac evaluations to receive the medication that I only started in May 2024, after the year had finished. I still currently am working with my family doctor awaiting a second medication. I struggled in every one of my courses, but DRAM 200 was considerably more difficult for me as there were many small assignments that felt complicated to stay on top of, leading me to fall behind greatly, and I often struggled to make it to the classes. I was able to get by in terms of grades in my other courses, but DRAM 200 felt much more difficult to do the same. If possible, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to complete the course, and do what is necessary to obtain an Aegrotat standing in the class. I would be able to do so easily in the summer term, but am also open to working on it alongside my classes this coming winter term.
Please let me know if you need anything else from me,
I appreciate your consideration and hope to hear from you soon,
Kaitlyn Viggers
