Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

I am emailing as I have been trying to review and re-study the content for this deferred exam, which is today, but it has been extremely tough to do so this time. Before the actual exam date, I got very sick and couldn't write the exam, which already deferred it. I went back home after I got a bit of energy back and started to feel slightly better, as my Grandpa who I hadn't seen for 3 years due to covid was visiting Toronto from his hometown, Winnipeg, and we called missed him dearly. Sadly, not even 12 hours after arriving, my grandpa passed away in our home. This was a big shock and was very traumatizing. About 20 paramedics came into our home, as well as about 20 police and firefighters. We had to watch the paramedics try to resurrect my grandfather, which was extremely traumatizing, as they dropped him on the ground so aggressively, which he then started bleeding all over the floor, and unfortunately, there was nothing they could do. As I have been trying to tell myself that he's in a better place, and trying to think past what I saw, to continue to study for this exam, it has been extremely difficult to do so, given my horrible headspace. I just feel whatever my results are on this final exam won't accurately represent my understanding in the course, and don't really think my headspace will magically change in the next couple of days. With this extended incomplete, I do believe a further deferred exam will allow me to improve my poor current headspace, as the funeral is planned to happen very soon, and hope that this will allow me to find closure with the traumatic situation my family sadly experienced.
