Petition Letter
Dear Faculty of Art’s and Science’s
I am writing to formally request permission to add the course GNDS 125: Gender, Race, and Popular Culture after the official deadline.
I sincerely apologize for not meeting the deadline and request your understanding of the extenuating circumstances that impacted my ability to make the necessary changes to my schedule on time.
To provide context, I was initially on the waitlist for IDIS 173, as it is a prerequisite for the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) program I was considering. However, as of January 17th, I realized I was far behind on the waitlist and began planning to switch to another course, GNDS 125: Gender Studies, to fulfill my credit requirements.
Unfortunately, on the same day, I received devastating news about the passing of a close family friend while I was at the library. This news profoundly affected me, and I had to step away from my work to process it.
Later that evening, I also learned of a potential housing issue for the upcoming year, which added to my stress and distractions. These events made it increasingly complex for me to focus and follow through with my planned course adjustment by the deadline.
I understand the importance of adhering to deadlines and take full responsibility for this oversight. However, I kindly ask for leniency in this situation due to the significant personal challenges I faced.

My name is Milka Njoroge. I am the instructor of GNDS 125: Gender, Race, and Popular Culture. This is a note to support Philippe De Courville Nicol Baril's petition to join GNDS 125: Gender, Race, and Popular Culture. Philippe has indicated an interest in the themes being discussed in this class, especially as it pertains to changing dynamics in our society, including how politics shapes our understanding of the world around us. Philippe has also indicated a commitment to catch up on the course material we have covered thus far. I do not doubt that Philippe will use the tools provided in this class to advance their personal and academic needs.
I am committed to making the necessary arrangements to catch up on any missed coursework for GNDS 125 should my petition be approved for either class. This course is essential for my academic goals and future program aspirations.
