Petition Letter
Hello,
I am writing to request your consideration for late enrollment in CISC 101 for the Winter 2025 semester.
As a first-year Computer Science student at Queen's University, I face a unique situation that has prevented me from enrolling in this course within the regular registration period.
During the Fall 2024 semester, I was enrolled in CISC 101 but did not pass due to health issues related to side effects from my ADHD medication and associated anxiety. These challenges significantly impacted my academic performance and my ability to meet course requirements.
I am presently registered for CISC 121, which builds upon the principles taught in CISC 101. To ensure success in CISC 121, it is critical that I retake CISC 101 concurrently.
Moreover, I must retake CISC 101 to remove the failed marks and improve my GPA. If I do not take it now, I will have to do this course after completing CISC 121, which would disrupt the intended educational progression, as CISC 101 lays the foundational knowledge necessary for CISC 121.
On January 17, the final day for course additions, I encountered a technical issue when attempting to add CISC 101 to my schedule. It is possible that enrollment restrictions prevented simultaneous registration in CISC 101 and CISC 121.
However, Dr. Chen has now given permission for Arts and Science to override the one-way exclusion, as detailed in the attached email.
Additionally, my struggles with ADHD and the inability to consistently take medication have significantly impaired my organizational abilities, and I have been missing critical deadlines.
Upon recognizing the issue, I promptly sought guidance from the Computer Science advising office and contacted Academic Student Services. I was informed that filing a petition for late course addition is my only available recourse.
Given the critical nature of my situation and its impact on my education, I respectfully request your approval for late enrollment in CISC 101. Taking this course alongside CISC 121 this semester is important for me.
I have contacted Professor Anwar Hossain requesting an instructor support note. Please refer to the attached email.
I appreciate your consideration of my petition and hope you will understand the circumstances that have led to this request.
Thank you for considering this matter. I look forward to your favorable response.
Sincerely,
Kubair
