Degree Completion and Graduation Timeline
In addition to supporting my academic transition, taking these courses externally is necessary to ensure my timely graduation. First I would like to mention that I will be applying this summer to change my general statistics degree to an honors statistics degree, which will require 120 credits, and I have already met the GPA requirements, plus the units requirements for the DA certificate which together make up my degree requirements. Now that I have taken 72 credits, I have 11 more required classes for my senior year, and I will be taking CISC 451 in the fall of my senior year because I have already taken CISC 251 and CISC 351, and even though I am no longer interested in this track, I want to get my DA certificate to increase my competitiveness, so I need to take this class even if I'm not interested and I'm confident that I can pass this course. So I've already planned out six classes for fall semester (5 required and CISC451) and six classes for winter semester (6 required) for my senior year. I looked at the 300-level+ STAT courses from last fall and this winter, and with the exception of STAT 455 (which has a clear prerequisite requirement and doesn't say whether or not I can get permission from the stats department and the prerequisite course, STAT 353, is offered in the winter) I'll need to enroll all of the 300-level+ STAT courses and in the winter choose a math course above 300level. However, since STAT361 is a course that I will not be able to take until the fall semester of my senior year, this course or ECON351, constitutes the prerequisite for most of the STAT courses that I will be taking in my senior year. I had to petition the department for permission to take these courses, and since econ351 is an exclusion to stat361 and 361 is a required course for me, meaning that I could not take econ351 for the rest of my undergraduate career, I needed to take the econ course in the summer to strengthen my econ knowledge background so that I could more likely and better convince the statistics department to pass me for these classes. This is one of the major reasons why I am taking an economics course. Lastly, I am sure you are still wondering why I must take an econ course off campus this summer due to timing issues. First of all, why do I need to take an economics course? I have already explained in detail why this summer is because I plan as well as I have to graduate normally in the summer of 2026 in the same term as my peers. The first is that my student visa will expire in the fall of 2026, and if I don't graduate properly, this will be very problematic; the second is that I have already researched senior year courses, and I have mentioned my considerations and plans for senior year courses above, and I think I am perfectly capable of graduating properly. The second thing is that when I graduated from high school, there was an epidemic, and our graduation ceremony was cancelled, so I haven't participated in a graduation ceremony until now, so the graduation ceremony in the summer of 2026 with my peers will be very important to me. It will be a monumental event for me, and I believe that colleges should have a humanistic approach as well as focus on the student's experiences and feelings, which are an important part of their lives. Based on all of this, this is why I am taking the ECON program off campus this summer, and why I am unable to fulfill these requirements within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Queen's University on the premise of graduating normally. My particular situation is an eye condition; the situation and condition are consistent with the last petitions, so I am using the same supporting documentation to explain my extenuating circumstances my situation that led to the petitions.
Conclusion
Given my unique circumstances and the academic challenges, I respectfully request permission to take 12-15 units of Economics courses at another institution this summer. This request is necessary due to (1) the strict limitations on cross-faculty enrollment at Queen's, (2) my revised academic and career trajectory, (3) my need to satisfy prerequisite requirements for upper-year Statistics courses, and (4) my commitment to graduating on time in Summer 2026.
