Petition Letter
I hope this letter finds you well. I’m Ruijun He and my student number is 20365421. I am writing to formally request an exception to the current policy regarding external credit transfers. Due to recent changes (last fall term) at Queen’s regulations, I am no longer able to apply external credits toward my degree requirements. I would like to express that my academic plans have been disrupted due to my battle with depression and without the ability to transfer 12.00 units of LOP or ILOP credits (equivalent to four courses), I will be unable to graduate on time.
I am currently in my third year at Queen’s University, pursuing a degree in Applied Economics and I am on track to graduate in Spring 2026. Given my current course progression, I want to get 12 additional credits to meet my program’s graduation requirements. The reason why I need to apply for an additional 12 credits off campus is because I have been suffering from psychological problems for the past year and I was diagnosed with depression when I returned to China for treatment in January 2025, which has seriously affected my studies and life, and resulted in a complete disruption of my original plans for the third year of my studies. I was compelled to forgo my originally planned courses. I hold the opportunity to study at Queen’s University in the highest regard. Despite the challenges posed by my depression, I have returned to Canada to continue my education. I kindly seek your understanding and support in this matter. However, to alleviate stress stemming from my mental health condition, I enrolled only three courses this semester. But now that I think my condition has improved, I am eager to resume my studies!
Due to my psychological reasons and changes in school policy, my options within Queen’s University are now limited. Many required courses have restricted availability or conflicting schedules, making it impractical for me to complete them within my remaining academic terms. Without these credits, I will have to extend my studies, which will impact both my academic and future plans.
Given the circumstances and the significant impact this policy change has had on my degree completion timeline, I respectfully request an exemption that would allow me to transfer 12 external credits toward my degree requirements.
I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration of my request. I would be happy to provide further information or meet to discuss my petition if necessary.
Thank you for your support.
