Petition Letter
Good afternoon,
I am a queen's student entering my fourth year of undergraduate studies, and I am appealing in hopes of obtaining a letter of permission for a transfer credit retroactively (for a second year course). I had called into the Faculty of Arts and Science and told that the first step to obtaining one is to appeal. I have to first say that I apologize for my inadequate research prior to taking a course at another university.
In the spring semester of my second year (2014), I was planning on applying to the Ivey School of Business for third year entry. This required to me take two accounting courses (such as COMM 211 and 212).
Unfortunately, although I received permission to take this course at Queen's without a prerequisite from the professor, I was never received a permission number despite several attempts to contact the correct person in the Commerce office. Therefore, I quickly reviewed other acceptable courses, and found that an accounting course at Ryerson was also considered equivalent as an accounting course.
Due to constrained time (since I had been expecting to be able to take the course at queen's), I quickly enrolled in the Ryerson Course. I recall reading that a letter of permission was necessary, but I failed to fully understand the details (that it was necessary prior to enrolling to the course). At the time, I had called the Ryerson office, and they had told me I did not need a letter of permission to take the course, and I could obtain it after.
This was clearly incorrect, and I should have double checked with Queen's University.
I am hoping to receive permission to obtain a letter of permission retroactively. I would like to use the course I took as a credit in order to graduate, but more importantly, to show that I have taken a full course load every year.
I am applying to law school this Fall (for entry next Fall), and it is of utmost importance that I can show I have taken a full course load every year of my undergraduate studies. In fact, the University of Toronto will not even consider my application if I cannot show this.
I have high hopes that the accounting course I have taken will be accepted, as another university had considered both Queen's and Ryerson's accounting course equivalent to their own.
