Petition Letter
Dear Academic Petition Committee,
I am writing to formally request a withdrawal from PHIL 296: “Animals and Society” due to unlivable conditions in my residence that severely impacted my ability to complete coursework. My living situation was plagued by constant noise, conflicts, and disruptive conditions, as well as significant structural issues like plumbing failures and a bug infestation. These problems created an unhealthy and highly stressful environment that made it nearly impossible to study or focus on my work.
The ongoing anxiety caused by these conditions further exacerbated my mental health, making it increasingly difficult to manage my responsibilities and coursework. As a result, I was unable to engage effectively with this particular course, which was participation-heavy. My focus shifted toward other classes, especially those with heavier writing assignments that I could complete in a more controlled environment. Unfortunately, this led to my disengagement from “Animals and Society” and caused me to fall irreversibly behind.
Given the severity of these circumstances and the toll they took on my well-being, I respectfully request a withdrawal without penalty. While obtaining formal documentation is challenging, I am happy to provide further details if necessary.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your understanding.
