Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Grace Cober and I am a fourth year linguistics major. I am writing to you today to request that a CR be put on my transcript for PSYC 221 Cognitive Psychology taken in the 2025 winter semester.
Due to the PSAC strike, the weighting of assignments in this class from the original syllabus was changed. This was because there were no TA’s available to mark the second planned midterm and remaining assignment. The result of this was instead of there being two midterms (worth 25% each) and a final (41%), the second midterm was cancelled (the day before we were meant to take it) and the final was reweighted to 66%. Although I tried to make this new situation work, I feel as though this change has disadvantaged me, as I did not do well in the first midterm and I was planning on making it up in the second midterm. I also felt incredibly prepared for the second midterm, but it was cancelled the day before we were supposed to write it. One of my other assignments, a paper, was also cancelled and was reweighted to the first two papers, something that also made it harder to achieve the grade I wanted in this course.
I understand that the strike and lack of TA’s is out of the control of my professor, but I do feel as though these changes disadvantaged me greatly. I am in fourth year as well, so I won’t have the opportunity to retake this course if I do not get the grade I want. My professor was the one who recommended I request a CR on my transcript for this class, as she also agrees that these circumstances were unfair and will support any requests for a CR. I am hoping you can help me by allowing this class to get a CR on my transcript.
