Petition Letter
I am writing to respectfully request a CR (Credit) grade for PSYC 221, in which I received a final grade of C+. I understand that CR grades are typically not granted for courses with final grades below a C; however, I would like to explain the extenuating circumstances that significantly impacted my academic performance and which I believe warrant an exception in this case.
Midway through the term, I underwent surgery due to a medical condition. This unexpected medical issue left me unable to engage with my coursework for approximately two weeks. In addition, I had to travel to Toronto for follow-up, and pre surgery medical appointments, which further disrupted my ability to fully participate in classes and stay on top of course material. These disruptions affected my preparation for a major midterm exam and hindered my ability to catch up with missed content during a critical point in the term.
These difficulties were compounded by the academic disruption caused by the university strike, which affected grading timelines, course delivery, and assessment weighting. The combined impact of these factors led to a final grade that does not reflect my typical academic performance.
I currently have an academic consideration on file in connection with these medical circumstances. I also made efforts to manage my situation by remaining in contact with instructors and following up with healthcare professionals during and after the incident, and since the issue has been fixed, this illness will not be a hindrance to my academic performance again, and hopefully another strike will not be an issue either.
I am particularly concerned about the effect this grade will have on my scholarship eligibility, as maintaining a specific GPA is required for renewal. Given the timing, severity, and documented nature of these extenuating circumstances, I respectfully request that a CR grade be considered for this course.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
