Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to respectfully request a change of grade to Credit (CR) for KNPE 167 – Socio-Cultural Dimensions of Sport and Physical Activity (Winter 2025) due to exceptional circumstances that negatively impacted both the quality of instruction and my academic performance in the course.
During the term, a university-wide strike lasting approximately a month resulted in a complete loss of access to TA support and instructional content. Our course instructor, Ms. Niya St. Amant, a PhD candidate, was also unable to continue teaching during this period. This meant that for a significant portion of the semester, no formal instruction or course engagement took place, leaving students without adequate learning opportunities or the ability to succeed in the course.
As a result of these circumstances, my final grade in KNPE 167 is significantly lower than my performance in all other courses, and it has had a noticeable negative impact on my overall GPA. I believe this grade does not reflect my academic abilities, but rather the impact of an instructional gap outside of my control.
Additionally, in a May 5th OnQ course announcement, Professor St. Amant herself acknowledged these challenges and explicitly noted that students unhappy with their final grades could appeal for a Credit (CR) grade.
In light of these circumstances, I am requesting that my final grade in KNPE 167 be changed to a Credit (CR) to fairly reflect the exceptional disruptions to learning and assessment that occurred during the term.
