Petition Letter
I am writing to respectfully request a review of my final grade in my PHIL 303 course. My final grade was a B+, which, after weighting calculations came just 0.7% below the threshold for an A- in Solus. I contacted the course instructor via email to inquire whether there was any possibility of review or reconsideration, but was informed that there was nothing further that could be done on his end.
I want to bring to your attention the impact that the academic strike had on the course structure. The strike suspended regular instruction for a significant portion of the term, and as a result, the final take-home exam was cancelled, and the assignments completed earlier in the term were reweighted to account for the missing components. While I understand these changes were necessary under the circumstances, they also meant that fewer assessments ultimately determined our final grade, with no opportunity to demonstrate improvement through the originally planned final.
This grade matters greatly to me because earning an A- in this course would have enabled me to qualify for the Dean’s List — a goal I have worked consistently toward and one that reflects my academic commitment. Given the closeness of the grade, the limited number of assessments due to the strike, and the cancellation of the final exam, I am requesting a formal review to ensure the final grade fairly reflects my performance under these exceptional conditions.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Andrew Keegan
