Academic Plan
My plan for next year is made up of three separate parts: the first is during the summer, the second is at the very start of next year, and the third is throughout the next school year.
First: During the summer, I am working with my doctor, psychologists, and psychiatrists to work out how we can help me be mentally better next year, with things such as medication and strategies to make me as successful and productive next year as I can be. I will use SASS’s online academic skills and strategies modules to learn strategies to help with procrastination and study skills. I will also spend a lot more time thinking even deeper into what went wrong and in what ways I can set myself up for success.
Second: This is the most important step to me, it involves laying down a strong base layer from the start. I will spend the time when I first get to school I’ll prioritize study and self-care habits. This is so I don’t fall mentally or academically behind and stay behind like last year. Building these habits is the most important to me because I get to start on the right foot and have a structured system, which was the largest reason I did not succeed last school year. I will also meet with my advisor, Jenna at Four Directions regularly and take part in group study sessions starting immediately to keep me accountable.
Third: This final step is to maintain all the work I put in before this and takes place during the school year. The biggest part of this is just showing up. I know myself as a student very well, and what I struggle with is not the content, it’s just staying on top of my work and not getting overwhelmed. I will be engaged by attending office hours regularly and attending student and TA run study sessions. The next part of this is reaching out when I need help, this is another one of my weaknesses, in the past I pushed through things by myself. This is not an effective strategy. I have so many people and resources that can help me at Queen’s. I’ll create and utilize a support system that consists of the Four Directions indigenous center, Student Wellness Mental Health Services, and consulting with a SASS learning strategist.
I very strongly want to come back to Queen’s to better myself and show that I can succeed like I am capable of.
Thank you for your consideration,
