I am appealing to remove FREN P11, GEOL 104 and PHIL 153, which I took during the winter term of 2015, from my transcript.
In the 2014-2015 school year I was a student at the Bader International Study Center, and then returned to main campus for the winter term to complete my first year of studies at Queens. It was my intention to complete both fall and winter terms at the BISC, however I chose to end my studies at the BISC and return to main campus as I felt the main campus program would provide a more successful academic experience for me.
Upon my return I experienced difficulty acquiring affordable housing, as well I was unable to register for courses that fit with my academic plan. I was with the help of a student advisor able to secure courses. To further complicate my situation I was required to have knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus in my right knee the last week of January 2015 with recuperation time to mid February. I was unable to attend classes and lectures as I was on crutches and advised by my surgeon to be caution in the winter on ice as to not reinjure my knee.
As a result of a difficult transition and the surgery I fell behind in my classes and was not able to recover my classes with passing marks. I was however successful in two other courses I was enrolled in, politics and global development.
To improve my academic situation I am currently enrolled in sociology 122 and gender studies 125, working over the summer to ensure I am completing program requirements. I have met with academic and career advisors to ensure that I am meeting the same expectations as my peers and continue to support my academic goals. I remain undeclared at this time, however I plan to major in sociology with a minor in global development.
