Petition Letter
Dear Dean
I am writing this letter to respectfully petition for the withdrawal from my internship (INTN 301 / 302) and COMM 600 course this academic year. This decision comes after experiencing an extremely difficult and traumatic period in my life, which significantly impacted my ability to fulfill my academic responsibilities.
In the last week of January this year, my home was broken into. My room and belongings were vandalized, and nearly all of my essential and cherished possessions were stolen. The emotional and mental toll of this violation deeply affected my daily functioning and focus.
As I was attempting to recover from this experience, I suffered a profound personal loss. In mid March, my best friend Jaden Thind passed away after a battle with stage 3 lung cancer. Jaden was an incredibly important part of my life, and his loss has been devastating.
These events occurred within a short span of time and left me in a state of emotional and psychological hardship. I found myself unable to engage meaningfully in my internship or the COMM 600 course as I worked to process these tragedies.
Since March, I have been gradually healing and making efforts to regain my stability and strength. I am doing better now, and I am committed to continuing my academic and personal growth. I am very grateful for the support from the support services team and my internship coordinators, and of the understanding that Queen’s has shown me throughout my time here, and I respectfully ask that these circumstances be considered in support of my petition. If documentation is needed, the support service team and my internship coordinators have let me know they would be happy to help support my case. Please let me know if anything else is needed.
Thank you for your time, understanding, and consideration.
