Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
I am petitioning for a late course drop for PHGY 215 and STAT 263 taken in fall 2024 as a result of extenuating circumstances outlined below.
Following my return to school for the fall term, my Fathers health quickly declined. As academics are very important to me and my family, I was encouraged to continue my studies and attend my in-person classes. However as the weeks progressed, my roles quickly changed from student to part time care taker as I had to take more frequent trips home, stay on the phone for hours while at school to support my mom through this difficult time and to coach my father through tasks like eating and using the proper body mechanics to walk up stairs and go to the washroom. On December 4, 2024, however, I got a call that would change my life forever. A routine check up turned into a hospital admission, and I was advised to return home to be at his bedside in the hospital. Once I was home, I spent over 8 hours in the hospital each day with my family as his condition worsened by the day. The family time, mental strain, and the bad hospital wifi made it especially hard to keep up with my studies. On December 17, 2024, my father unfortunately passed away. I thought I would be able to continue my studies as normal, but unfortunately, that was not the case. As a result, my grades in this course do not reflect my academic ability.
