Scholastic Standards Committee Queen's University Subject: Appeal for Academic Probation – Samuel Nelson, Student ID: 20452675 Dear Members of the Scholastic Standards Committee, I am writing to formally appeal my current academic probation status and request to be reinstated for the fall/winter 2025 academic year. I understand that my grades did not meet the required academic standards, and I take full responsibility for my performance. My academic standing suffered due to a combination of unforeseen personal challenges. Specifically, during that time, I was suffering from loneliness, anxiety and depression, something I failed to communicate to my family, and I deeply regret this. I was riddled with guilt and anxiety, and therefore, I did not communicate my standing to my parents until now; I was too ashamed. This was a spiral effect, as soon as I didn't do well on an assignment, I would fall deeper into an anxious state that grew into depression, making it difficult to focus on my studies. For example, I was aware of my standing but couldn't communicate out of fear and shame. I was embarrassed, ashamed, and very depressed. I didn't see a way out. To demonstrate my commitment to improving my academic record, I have developed the following plan for the upcoming semester: Action 1: I plan to reduce my course load to a manageable level, seek out the Academic Support Center for time management coaching, or enroll in a study skills workshop. Action 2: I will utilize campus tutoring services for any challenges I am having in my courses. Action 3: I have already begun addressing the underlying issues that affected my performance and have engaged in seeing a counsellor for anxiety management. I have attached supporting documentation to my appeal that further explains my circumstances, including [list your documents, a family member's statement. I am eager to re-engage with my studies and am confident that with these changes and my dedication, I can achieve and maintain a strong academic record. I respectfully request that you reconsider my case and grant me the opportunity to continue my education at Queen's University. Thank you for your time and consideration.
