Academic Plan – Francesca Amato

Bachelor of Arts
I am submitting this Academic Plan in support of my petition to late-drop courses from the Winter 2024 and Summer 2024 terms, which were significantly impacted by overlapping physical and mental health challenges. Since that time, I have taken important steps to ensure that I can succeed in my academic journey, and this plan outlines the strategies and supports I will continue to utilize.
1. Health and Wellness Supports
I remain under the regular care of my psychiatrist, social worker, and primary care physician. My treatment plan includes prescribed medication, ongoing therapy, group counseling, and routine medical follow-ups. These supports have already contributed to the stabilization of my health, and I am committed to maintaining them throughout the remainder of my degree. By continuing to prioritize my health and wellness, I will be better equipped to manage stress, reduce anxiety, and maintain consistent academic engagement.
2. Academic Accommodations and Strategies
I will continue to use the academic accommodations I have in place, including extended deadlines, note-taking assistance, and flexibility around exams. In addition, I have developed effective habits that contributed to my recent success in WRIT 120 and FILM 260, such as maintaining a structured weekly schedule, actively communicating with professors, and breaking larger assignments into smaller, manageable tasks. These strategies help me remain organized, accountable, and prepared for my coursework.
3. Course Load Management
I have already adjusted my approach to course load and course retakes in order to set myself up for success. Most recently, I retook WRIT 120 and FILM 260 — courses I had previously failed during my period of health struggles — and successfully completed them under my new treatment plan and with academic accommodations in place. Retaking these courses allowed me to demonstrate my academic ability in a more accurate reflection of my current physical and mental state, while also replacing previous grades that did not represent my true potential. Moving forward, I will continue to manage my course load carefully, focusing on balance, self-awareness, and steady progress. This demonstrates my commitment to a continuous state of self-betterment and resilience in my academic journey.
4. Academic and Career Goals
I am eager and determined to complete my degree, improve my GPA, and prepare for future academic and career pursuits. Retaking WRIT 120 and FILM 260 is part of this broader commitment to strengthening my academic record and ensuring my transcript reflects my true abilities. By maintaining consistent progress, building on the success of these retaken courses, and continuing to prioritize both my health and academics, I am confident that I will meet the requirements for graduation while positioning myself strongly for future opportunities.
This plan reflects both the lessons I have learned and the growth I have achieved since my health challenges in 2024. With continued treatment, structured academic habits, and a proven record of success through recent retaken courses, I am fully committed to completing my degree, bettering my GPA, and thriving in my studies and future career.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
All the best,
Francesca Amato
