Petition Letter
I am writing to respectfully request permission to participate in an external exchange program in Prague during the Winter term. My petition is based on exceptional circumstances with the unique academic and personal opportunities this exchange represents, and how they directly support my long-term academic and professional goals.
As an Economics major, the opportunity to expand my global perspective is something I would greatly appreciate and I believe would be very beneficial to my degree plan. The courses offered in Prague line up really well with my degree, especially in areas like history, globalization, and marketing. These aren’t courses I’d be able to take at Queen’s, so being able to study them abroad gives me a chance to add a unique perspective to my program.
On top of the academics, I also have distant relatives living in Prague which is something that makes this experience especially meaningful for me. Having that connection means I’ll have both a strong support system and will be given the opportunity to learn more about my culture and heritage. I see this as a chance not just to study but also as a way to connect and learn more about my ancestors.
The courses I plan to take include Brand/Product Marketing, Marketing in Central and Eastern Europe, International Management, Cultural History of the Czech Lands, and New Media and Trend in ICT. My alternate courses include International Finance, Elementary Czech, and Globalization and World Politics. As someone who is very interested in a career in marketing, the combination of these courses will enhance my understanding of economics and business as well as help me view what my potential future may look like.
I understand that a semester abroad can be a challenging commitment, however, I have spent many of the summer months planning how I'll make it work and what I can do to help me best succeed. I am highly confident that the combination of family support, strong course alignment, and exploring a new and exciting part of my family background will set me up for success both academically and personally.
Thank you for considering my petition!
Sincerely,
Georgia Hoffmeister
