Subject- Petition to Count LAW 201 Towards Degree Credit
My name is Ronik Chauhan, and I am a third-year international student in the Applied Economics program under the Faculty of Arts and Science. I am writing to kindly request an exception to the rule limiting students to 9 credits outside the Arts and Science faculty, and to ask if LAW 201 could please be counted toward my degree requirements.
I recently discovered that courses offered by the Faculty of Law are not classified under Arts and Science. I had mistakenly assumed they were, which is why I enrolled in both LAW 204 and LAW 201 along with two Commerce courses (COMM 221 and COMM 211). This has unfortunately left me with four outside courses, when I now understand that only three are permitted.
As an international student, every course I take comes at a very high cost, and the thought of having to replace LAW 201 with another course is extremely difficult for me both financially and emotionally. I truly believed I was staying within my program’s guidelines when I planned my schedule, and only realized my mistake after reviewing my record with my advisor. This has been very stressful, and I deeply regret.
I want to emphasize that this was an honest misunderstanding on my part, and I assure you that I will never take a course outside of Arts and Science again, even by mistake. I am committed to following the regulations of my program carefully moving forward. I respectfully and sincerely ask for your compassion in allowing LAW 201 to count toward my degree requirements. I plead that my request be looked upon kindly given my genuine misunderstanding and the grave financial consequence attached to any required remedy.
