Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
My name is Lily Maher and I want to enrol in ANAT 100 as I have already dropped CWRI 101 therefore an only in 4 classes during my freshman fall 2025 term.
I reason I am requiring a petition is because of the extenuating circumstances regarding my mental health. over the past 2 days I have been in contact with my doctor and was prescribed new ADHD medication. I was also discussing the current medication I am taking for my anxiety and how it has been positive impacting my academic performance and social cues. This new medication will help my performance in class in a positive way and in the case of a hard situation I am in constant communication with my family doctors.
Without my new medication my ADHD highly impacts my academic performance as I struggle to pay attention and focus for long periods of time, as well as, being to get emotionally deregulated and impulsive with my work. For example, in my creative writing class (the one I want to drop) I struggled to listen to the professor and therefore made it difficult to learn all the content; however, during an online class it is easier for me to concentrate because I have the ability to work at my own pace for shorter bits of time and with my new medication it will help even more.
My ADHD heightens when I am sitting for to long, typically over 45 minutes, in quite environment and when I find the subject uninteresting. I was diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago but am just beginning to take medication now. I originally only took ADHD meds however they were making my anxiety so bad I had to take a break, but during that time my ADHD was getting worse. I am now trying a new medication to see if it will better affect my ADHD.
Without these meds my work performance was lowered because I would be impulsive with what I was submitting and was not completely in a positive emotional state because of how anxious I was about my ADHD impacting university work.
I continue to talk with my doctor about my ADHD and anxiety in case it gets worse and have monthly phone calls with her to better understand how my neurological disorders are developing as I get older and continue to take the medication.
I was incredibly busy over the past week in regard to my mental health (ADHD and anxiety) and during which the course enrolment deadline was closed and therefore I missed my change to drop CWRI 101 and enrol in ANAT 100.
Thank you,
Lily Maher
