Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Academic), Dr. Dorit Naaman,
I am requesting approval to complete four courses (12.0 credits) during the Winter 2026 term at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. I am pursuing this on the grounds of exceptional academic opportunity, as the courses I plan to take are not offered at Queen’s and directly support my degree and certificates.
To remain fully on track, I will (1) enroll in 12.0 credits at Charles University that align with my Film and Media major and Certificates in Business and Entrepreneurship & Innovation; (2) submit syllabi for transfer-credit pre-approval; and (3) upon my return, continue upper-year coursework and, if needed, enroll in Summer 2026 courses to ensure continuous academic progress. Although I am arranging this visit independently, Charles University is a recognized and prestigious institution, which should facilitate transfer credit evaluation and alignment with Queen’s standards.
Academically, this opportunity will expand my understanding of global media and marketing through four upper-level courses: The Emotions of Marketing, Disinformation & Fake News, Tourism Marketing, and The Digital Ecosystem: Big Tech, Privacy & Marketing. I’ve always been genuinely interested in how media and communication shape the way people think, make decisions, and connect with the world, so being able to study these topics in a new cultural context feels especially exciting. Together, these courses will let me explore how European perspectives on communication, technology, and consumer culture differ from those in North America, deepening my knowledge of international marketing and digital media systems.
Beyond academics, I know this experience will push me to grow personally and professionally. Prague has such a rich cultural and media history, and I’m excited to immerse myself in it learning not just from lectures, but from living in a completely different environment. I see this as a chance to gain a deeper understanding of global media systems and return to Queen’s with new skills, perspectives, and creative ideas.
