Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to request a late drop from CHEM 285 and BCHM 218, and a grade change to CR for PHGY 215, all courses taken in the Summer 2025 term.
In April of 2025, I experienced a sexual assault, and in August 2025, I was required to appear in court to testify against my assaulter. Being confronted with this individual and reliving those experiences was deeply distressing and retraumatizing. The emotional impact of both the assault and the court proceedings had a lasting effect on my mental health and academic performance throughout the term.
Although I did my best to stay engaged with my coursework, the trauma and emotional exhaustion made it extremely difficult to focus or perform to my usual standard. As a result, I received failing grades in CHEM 285 and BCHM 218, and a grade below a C+ in PHGY 215, grades that do not reflect my academic commitment or capability, but rather the circumstances I was enduring at the time.
Since then, I have been taking steps toward recovery and have sought the appropriate support to regain stability. I am now in a much better position to manage my studies and continue progressing toward my degree successfully. I would be sincerely grateful if my request could be considered with compassion so that my academic record more accurately represents my circumstances during that difficult period.
Please let me know if any additional information or documentation would be helpful. Thank you very much for your understanding and support.
Warm regards,
