Petition Letter
The issue I am writing to clarify concerns the deadlines for our weekly quizzes.
According to the course timeline, there are 10 quizzes, one for each week, and directly beneath each quiz appears the note “Open all term.” Based on this consistent wording, I decided in Week 1 that I would complete all the weekly quizzes together later in the term, once I had a fuller understanding of the course material and felt better prepared to perform well on them.
However, when reviewing Week 12 of the timeline today, I encountered a new statement: “Quizzes Due Nov 30, 11:55pm.” This is the first point in the timeline where a closing date is mentioned. Chronologically, it appears after ten earlier instances that indicate the quizzes are “Open all term.”
Our syllabus states that “If there are discrepancies between dates in the course OnQ site, the Timeline will be considered accurate.” Based on this guideline, I am unsure how I was expected to interpret the timeline during the first ten weeks. Should the accurate information have been that the quizzes were “Open all term,” or that they would close on November 30th? Both statements cannot be true simultaneously.
Given that the timeline repeatedly (and for 91% of the course) indicated that quizzes were open all term, and that this information appeared first and consistently, I believed in good faith that I could complete the quizzes at any point before the term ended.
I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to complete the ten quizzes under these circumstances, as the information provided on the timeline reasonably led me to believe that they would remain available throughout the term.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
