Petition Letter
Dear Faculty and Staff,
I am writing this letter to petition a CR for my grade in GLPH 385. During my time taking this course I faces many personal challenges that led me to perform poorly academically. The big personal struggle I faced was regarding my mental health which I have struggled with throughout the course of my degree. I was experiencing one of the lowest depressive episodes in my life triggered by a family member passing, ongoing stress, and family struggles. Unfortunately during this time I was barely able to take care of myself, relying on family and friends to try and support me through this. I completed my coursework to the best of my abilities, however, it is reflected that my best was not academically good enough and my grade suffered because of this. When taking the course I did not realize how bad things were getting nor did I anticipate the poor grade I would accumulate as a result of this personal struggle. Had I understood at the time how deep I was sinking, I would have applied for a PIC, but by the time I realized it was too late. I am petitioning to change this grade to a CR as I am finally doing better and am worried that this negative grade obtained during a time of a hardship will negatively impact any future applications to grad school.
Thank you for taking the time to review my application, and I hope that you can understand why I do not want this personal struggle to define my success in the future. I look forward to hearing back.
Regards,
Lauren Fields
