Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing for permission to take 24.0 credits from an alternate university to complete my degree at Queen¿¿s. I would complete these credits in the winter and summer of 2016, taking no more than 15.0 credits from the away university in a single term.
I have had psychological problems for the duration of my time at Queen¿¿s, the effects of which I am also currently appealing, and the best thing for the continuation of my improvement is to stay in Toronto with my family and doctors. I have tried treatments including multiple medications, transcranial magnetic stimulation and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and the course of treatment I am on now has been the most effective. I have tried for the past four years to remain at Queen¿¿s and travel home when possible and I no longer think it is a good choice. My course of treatment strongly relies on my ability to attend appointments with my psychiatrist to monitor my medication, visits with a therapist for CBT/Mindfulness, and having my family as my main support system. My mental health for the past four months has been better than it has been in the last four years of my life, and I think my health and my education would both benefit from the continuation of my current treatment, which I will not have access to from Kingston.
I am requesting 24.0 units because my program requires 27.0 units in history seminars, which must be attended in person, and I have only completed one seminar. I have 9.0 units left that don¿¿t require in-class participation, and I intend to take these online through Queen¿¿s University. I have not specified the exact number of credits in each term because the number is dependant on permission from Queen¿¿s and U of T on a course-by-course basis.
I am hopeful that I could end my undergrad on a positive note if I am able to work from Toronto, and I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to do so. I have attached some documentation but am able to get anything else from my doctors that you may want to see. Thank you for your time.
