To the Associate Dean,
I am writing to appeal a grade I received in PHIL 343 from Professor Gordon-Solmon. It is my view that I received an attendance grade that does not reflect the instructions provided in the syllabus which negatively impacted my final grade. I will do my best to explain my grievance in detail below, rooted in the stated class instructions in the syllabus. To that end, I’ve included as supporting documentation in my appeal the class syllabus and my grade breakdown as supplied by Professor Gordon-Solmon, though I will also include the relevant quotations below. Additionally, the professor may be able to supply physical records of my attendance if she has kept the attendance question sheets from the class.
In PHIL 343, the syllabus lists the course requirements as follows:
• Attendance/participation: 40%
• Group presentation: 20%
• Midterm Essay: 10%
• Final essay: 10%
• Oral Defense (Best performance of two): 20%
