Petition Letter
Good Afternoon,
I'm currently in my fourth year as an Applied Economics student here at Queen's. During my first week, I was enrolled in ECON 425 as an extra course, hoping to switch into a different course that fit my schedule better during the week to balance out my six classes I am currently in to graduate on time this Spring. I came across EMPR 300 which I immediately emailed the professor about during the first week, January 6th 2026, as I needed him to approve my enrolment. Unfortunately the email provided to me on the Queen's page (richard.chaykowski@queensu.ca) was not Professor Chaykowski's current working email. I soon realized this and emailed the correct one on January 12th 2026 (chaykows@queensu.ca). I heard back the same day which was super helpful as I needed to swap the two classes. He said since he has approved my request, he needs the department to approve it and so an email was also sent to them on January 12th. It is now January 19th, I waited all of last week for a reply, and with the Professors opinion he advised me to come to his classes regardless of being accepted as of yet. In doing so, the class that I was hoping to drop (ECON 425) for EMPR 300 has mandatory attendance twice a week which I have now missed after the first week. The department emailed back today and said that the deadline is dropped and they have no control over solus and that they apologize for the delay of their response, that the best thing to do is submit a petition to FAS. Now in our third week, and assignments starting in both classes I am sincerely hoping to sort this out as I had no control over the late responses from the department. I am hoping for an exception for the drop/add/swap deadline so I can smoothly transition classes.
Thank you in advance for your time.
