Petition Letter
Good morning,
I am writing this petition letter to add a class after the deadline has passed.
The course I require to complete my full degree is ENGL 259.
At the beginning of the semester, I had thought that only required four courses this winter to complete my degree as it was reflected on my solus account. I decided to meet with an academic advisor to confirm, since I have had issues with solus before. By the time I got an appointment time the deadline has passed and I was informed that I did in fact need all five courses to fulfill my requirements.
I emailed Arts and Science Academic Resource Advising right away about how to add a class after the deadline has passed and was told that I would either need permission from the professor or write a petition letter. Since it was only two days after the deadline, I emailed the professor for ENGL 259 right away. After a few days I received no response, and was getting worried. I sent emails to professors of a few other courses, however they ended up conflicting with my schedule.
I reached out to the professor of ENGL 259 a couple more times and received no response. I decided to email the head of the English department. I was then informed that a professor cannot grant permission to enter a course past the deadline, which is contradictory to what I have been told the last couple weeks.
After some miscommunication, I have been led here, writing this letter. I realize that it is well past the date to add classes, however this is my last requirement I need to graduate on time in the spring with my full honours degree.
I sincerely apologize for failing to add a class on time. I hope that you allow me to enter this class to complete my full degree. I will complete missed course work right away, and make up for the time lost in the class.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Emma Pascoe
