Petition Letter
I am writing to respectfully petition for permission to add MATH 112 after the course add deadline.
I am a first-year undergraduate student intending to pursue a Chemistry degree. Due to circumstances beyond my control surrounding the timing of my return to studies and academic decision-making early in the term, I was unable to add MATH 112 before the deadline.
I returned to school later than the start of the semester. During this time, my parents strongly encouraged me to first attempt MATH 110 in the second semester before making a final decision to switch courses. In an effort to make an informed academic choice and to follow their guidance, I attended and participated in MATH 110 for approximately one week after returning. After this short period, it became clear that MATH 110 was not the most appropriate course for my academic goals or learning needs, and that MATH 112 would better support my intended Chemistry program.
As soon as I reached this conclusion, I attempted to switch into MATH 112; however, by that time the course add deadline had already passed. This delay was not due to neglect or lack of planning, but rather the result of my later return to studies and the time needed to properly assess my academic situation once I was back on campus and engaged in coursework.
This situation has directly affected my academic progress. I am currently enrolled in only four courses, and adding MATH 112 would allow me to maintain a full and balanced course load that aligns with the requirements and expectations of a Chemistry degree. MATH 112 is foundational for my program, and delaying it would place me at a disadvantage in future semesters.
I have been actively engaged in my studies since returning and am committed to my academic success. I respectfully request that my petition be considered in light of these circumstances and the minimal delay involved, as well as the clear academic relevance of MATH 112 to my degree path.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
