Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
I am writing to request an extension of my deferred exam due to extenuating health-related circumstances that have had a direct impact on my academic performance.
I have been experiencing a significant worsening of an existing mental health condition due to recent family-related stress and difficulty accessing timely care. During this period, my ability to concentrate and manage academic responsibilities was substantially affected, and I was not functioning at my usual academic capacity.
Although I am now receiving appropriate care, I have recently changed medications and am currently experiencing side effects during the adjustment period. I have been advised that it may take several weeks for the medication to stabilise and for my condition to improve. As a result, I am currently unable to effectively complete my deferred exam within the required timeframe.
This situation has occurred during the period in which I was expected to complete deferred examinations and have also affected my ability to manage other responsibilities including time away from work, which has been supported by my doctor.
I have scheduled follow-up consultations for the upcoming week and am still working with my healthcare providers. I have not yet been able to obtain updated medical documentation but will submit it as soon as it becomes available.
I have also reached out to my course instructor to inform them of my circumstances and to request assistance in determining an appropriate extension timeframe.
Given the impact of these circumstances on my ability to function normally I respectfully request consideration for an extension of my deferred exam.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Genna Fostine-Desilva
