Petition Letter
I am submitting this petition because my academic performance during the Fall 2025 term was directly affected by serious extenuating circumstances beyond my control.
From August 27, 2025 to April 23, 2026, I was subject to a university conduct process involving allegations that I strongly disputed. The process spanned nearly the entire academic year and placed me under sustained and severe psychological stress. During this time I was managing ongoing uncertainty, isolation, reputational harm, and the emotional weight of defending myself against allegations later proven to be false, in a process I experienced as procedurally unfair and deeply destabilizing.
The allegations were ultimately not upheld and were withdrawn. However, throughout the Fall 2025 term I had to continue functioning academically while under the full pressure of that process. The distress was not episodic but constant. It affected my concentration, my sleep, my ability to maintain a normal routine, and my capacity to engage meaningfully with coursework, assignments, and exams.
The impact was compounded by the timing. The process began before the term started and continued without resolution through the entire semester, meaning there was no period during Fall 2025 in which I was not living under its effects. My academic performance that term reflects the cumulative toll of a prolonged and distressing process that was ultimately resolved in my favour.
I took reasonable steps to address my situation throughout, including engaging with the university process directly, seeking clarification and institutional support, and working with the Ombudsperson's office. Despite these efforts, the matter remained unresolved for many months, and the psychological effects continued to interfere with my studies.
I respectfully request academic relief for the affected Fall 2025 coursework on the basis of these extenuating circumstances.
Sincerely,
Johann Loewenstein
