Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
I am writing to respectfully request a reconsideration of my final grade in IDIS 373.
Throughout the course, I consistently demonstrated strong academic performance and engagement. I completed every discussion post requirement and replied to at least two classmates for each discussion component, contributing toward participation. My grades throughout the course also reflected a consistently high level of performance, including:
Short Written Assignments 1 and 2: 93%
Short Written Assignments 3 or 4: 93.5%
Long Written Assignment: 96%
The issue concerns the self-assessment rubric component worth 20% of the final grade. When recording deadlines in my calendar, I did not see the rubric submission listed within the course timeline section. I also checked the timeline again several days ago and still did not see it there. However, after emailing regarding the matter, I noticed the rubric had since appeared in the timeline section. Because I did not see it listed there, I was studying abroad during the term, and as a Commerce student taking a course outside my standard discipline, I did not realize this rubric submission was a required component of the course evaluation.
I fully acknowledge and take responsibility for not submitting the rubric. However, I respectfully believe that the resulting final grade of a B does not accurately reflect the quality of work and participation I demonstrated throughout the course. Given my consistent participation and assignment performance, I would reasonably have assessed myself in the 90%+ range on the rubric component as well.
I am therefore requesting a review and reconsideration of my final grade in light of the circumstances and the overall body of work completed during the course.
I would be happy to provide any further documentation, course materials, or additional information that may assist in the review process.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Abby Priemer (20390578)
