Dear Dr. Dorit Naaman,
I am writing to kindly petition for an extension of an exam deferral for EMPR 270, that was originally scheduled for May 19th, 2026, due to the extenuating circumstances outlined below.
A week prior to my scheduled exam, my uncle passed away. The loss of my family member has had a significant emotional impact on me and my family. In the days leading up to the exam, I found it extremely difficult to focus and concentrate on studying due to sadness and emotional exhaustion. Given these circumstances, I do not believe I was in the appropriate state to perform to the best of my abilities on the exam scheduled for May 19th, 2026.
Since December 2024, I have been seeing Dr. Arunima Khanna, a psychologist at the Queen’s Student Wellness Services, who has also provided a letter of support on my behalf. I hope to continue meeting with her to help me cope with the grief and manage my emotions.
My EMPR 270 professor Dr. Jacoba Lilius is supportive of this petition, if approved. Given my extenuating circumstances, I hope you can consider granting an extension of an exam deferral for EMPR 270. If granted, I hope to complete my exam at the time scheduled by my professor. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Kind regards,
